September 14-16, 2024 Jiaminghu (Sancha, Xiangyang)

Day 1: Jiemaosi Trailhead → Xinwulu River Campsite

On the first day, we gathered at North Station at 3 AM, departing from Taipei, about 5 hours to Taitung, passing through rice fields that were truly spectacular - the entire green paddy seemed to be welcoming us.

Day 1 Itinerary

Jiemaosi Trailhead → Jiemaosi Front Peak → Jiemaosi Mountain → Xinwulu River Campsite (overnight)

Heading to Hunter Campsite, but the scenery along the way was so beautiful that I honestly didn’t keep track of where we were going.

Campsite Selection

Hunter Campsite or Lianli Campsite

Lianli Campsite is closer to Jiaminghu, so many people prefer to camp there, but you have to walk past Sister Lake and continue downward. Lianli had active water source the last time I passed, so it’s a good option for getting water.

But if there’s no space or you want to rest earlier, Hunter Campsite or by Sister Lake is also an option, though you’ll need to start early the next day - that was our situation.

Day 3: Hunter Campsite → Jiaminghu → Down

Day 3 Itinerary

Hunter Campsite (overnight) → Jiaminghu → Sancha Mountain → Xiangyang Mountain → Xiangyang Mountain House → Xiangyang Workstation (trailhead)

Night Hike to Jiaminghu

Night hiking to Jiaminghu, the sky turning pale pink, watching teammates ahead, I felt not just the hardship and romance of this journey, but also a little melancholy knowing this final day was coming to an end - I’m so glad I captured this moment.

Sancha and Xiangyang Mountains

We were lucky that day - the weather was clear and we could see Lü Island (綠島)!

Heading towards Sancha and Xiangyang, there are no trees here either - strong wind and intense sun the whole way. Be sure to do windproof preparation!! Secure your backpack straps!! Your hat!! Your hat will definitely blow away, so tie the hat straps tight!!!
